House & Cottages, Brook End by William Theobalds 1869
Today this is Glendale, 9 Brook End, which no longer has a cluster of cottages in its grounds. It had been owned by the Theobald family for many years, until it was sold for £750 by William Theobalds to John Pearmain on 3 May 1867, who after two or so years of ownership put the property up for auction on 22 December 1869. William Theobalds had remained the tenant until he died 11 November 1869.
At the auction John Hart of East Hatley emerged the victorious bidder at £790 He in turn let the property to John Franklin, son in law of the late William Theobalds, who had been resident in the property since he married William’s daughter in 1862.
