Monumental Inscriptions Church & Churchyard 1983

with relevant entries from Burial Register

This is a record of all memorials, in Church and Churchyard found in 1983. Along side the memorial transcripts are the relevant entries from the Burial Registers.

The memorials were recorded by Andrew J Pye with the starting point at the north-east corner of the Churchyard by the War Memorial. The Churchyard was divided into three sections – using the footpaths as the main dividers. Section A was the north east corner from the road to a western boundary taken as a straight line at right angles from the west end of the Church across to the public footpath by the School House. Section B was the whole western area, including the new extension. Section C was the south east area – east and south of the Church and east of the entrance footpath. This section contained most of the oldest monuments.

Section A contained Memorials 1 to 25, Section B 26 to 194 and Section C 195 to 278. The War Memorial and Church interior are at the end. The numbers provide a rough indication as to position of a Memorial, although no plan has been produced. A second caveat is that this typescript is a first draft copied from the original MSS note books and although some checking has been carried out, it cannot be considered comprehensive.

It was not intended for publication in this intermediate form, but as it contains a number of grave stones that are no longer completely legible, it serves as a useful bolster to the 2009 transcript. There is an alphabetical index of surnames at the end.

Notification of errors and omissions will be welcomed.
