104 Station Road, Odsey, Flint Cottage

This appears to have been built as accommodation for the adjoining mill and may have been known originally as Mill House, although in more modern times it is Flint Cottage and Mill House applies to No 106 the converted mill itself. It is difficult to date when it was built, although it appears on the 1888 OS 25 inch map. In the 1851 Census an address Steam Mill Yard is recorded, with only one resident Joseph Head a carman, born Sandon. This is probably Flint Cottage, which suggests it dates to about 1850. There are entries in 1861 and 1871 Censuses, which equate with this property. In 1861 the resident is William Betts, engine driver, born Steeple and in 1871 John Hoy, engine driver, born Bassingbourn. It is likely that both “drove” the stationary engine that powered the mill, rather than driving an engine in a more mobile sense.

As with the Mill, the cottage was originally owned by the Fordham family and after it became superfluous to the operation of the Mill was presumably let, until it was sold on 1 December 1979 by Christopher Jeremy King Fordham and John Rupert Fordham to Anthony George Reynolds and Delma Eugene Reynolds

Planning applications include for extensions for A C Hart approved in February 1988, and in August 2002 approval for extension, car port and vehicular access for Mr & Mrs P Martin and more recently June 2017 approval for single storey rear extension for Mr & Mrs Paul Read.
