57 Station Road, Gatleyside

This house was built for Victor William Duke South and Phyllis Mary South, who were granted planning permission for a detached house and garage on 28 April 1958 and moved here from Rutland House, 21 Hay Street between October 1959 and October 1960. They named their new house Gatleyside. Victor died 31 January 1978 and between October 1979 and October 1980 Phyllis moved to 95 Hay Street ultimately moving to The White House Nursing Home, 66 Hay Street, where she died 1999.

By October 1980 the occupants of Gatleyside were Betty Wright, Keith J Wright and Maurice J Wright, who were not long resident, as by October 1981 the property had been bought by Austin Thomas McDonnell and Cecilia Grace McDonnell, who were resident with their two children Stephen Charles and Ann Louise. Cecilia, known as Celia, died 5 July 2020 and Austin on 12 September 2021. The property was put on the market by the Executor in January 2023.
