4 & 6 Cheyney Street

This plot of land was anciently part of the Wimpole Estate and contained a house and small farm yard. The house was demolished in the mid-1960s and the land became part of the adjoining Mill Yard, of which the owner was Victor William Duke South. He sold the plot to Ronald Beaumont and Christopher Charles Wilkins of 87a High Street, Henlow on 17 February 1972. They applied for Planning Permission for two houses, each with a double garage, which was granted.

The houses were built by Beaumont & Wilkins and No 4 was sold 21 June 1973 to Graham Morton Cobbe and Kristine Cobbe and No 6 was sold 20 September 1973 to Denis Andrew Graham Fox and Betty Fox.

During the Second World War this plot was the location of the village air-raid shelter.
