James Thomas Solomon
Commemorated on the War Memorial as J T Solomon and Cambridgeshire Memorial in Ely Cathedral as J T Soloman.
James was not born locally, but arrived in this world at 9 Grove Terrace, High Road, Woodford, Essex on 23 April 1895, son of a master fishmonger, John Thomas Solomon and his wife Ellen Eliza nee Tolfrey. John had been born in Tottenham, son of gardener and Ellen originated in Croydon, Surrey, which is where they married on 20 August 1888. Before James they had two daughters – Ellen Eliza born 1889 and Alice in 1890.
John was a fishmonger at time of marriage, although in the 1871 Census he had been a thirteen old errand boy for a draper. He appears to have done well with his fishmonger’s as in the 1911 Census the family was living at Woodlands [90 Hay Street] in Steeple Morden and he is described as a retired fishmonger age forty-three.
