Braithwaite Family

The Braithwaite family lived at The Nursery, Baldock Road from the 1930s to 1976.

William Braithwaite was born 27 May 1895, location unknown at present. He married Ethel May Croft, who was born 25 July 1897, in 1929 in Hitchin district. They lived at 34 Broughton Hill, Letchworth, before moving to The Nursery. Moving date uncertain, but certainly by 1939. William had bought the land at Baldock Road in December 1926 and January 1934.

William and Ethel had two daughters Margaret Ann born 1932 Royston district and Jean E born 1936 Hitchin district. Margaret Ann married Robert E Wilkerson at Steeple Morden in 1957.

William and Ethel are in the 1939 Register, of which there is a copy below. He is described as Charge hand, jig, foot gauge maker also smallholder.

William died 19 August 1975 at The Nursery and Ethel moved away. She died 1993 in Hitchin district.
