Ploughing Match held Tuesday 26 March 1799
On Tuesday last, a hat, with blue ribbons, was ploughed for by the ploughmen of Steeple Morden and its neighbourhood. Ten ploughmen exerted their abilities with great skill, in ploughing a single straight furrow each, and the hat was adjudged to Wm. Charter, a servant of Mr Wm Hall of Steeple Morden, who was allowed to have ploughed the best furrow in all respects. John Surry servant to Mr S Leete, of Guilden Morden was second best.
