The Theobalds

Richard Burgess

Back in 2009 I made contact with a descendant of Gamaliel Theobalds living in Australia. Part of her email adds to the information on the family shown on your Tree 4.

“Thank you for your email it was exciting to see that we do have a family connection. I am the 5th great grand daughter of John & Ann Theobalds, I have descended from Gamaliel who migrated to Australia on the “Duke of Portland” August 1850. He was a builder, I have
photos of some buildings in Richmond with ‘Theobalds Buildings” which I came across quite by accident when I got lost in Melbourne one evening with a friend. I am still trying to find more information about the building.
Gamaliel had 9 children his daughter Ann (b 13 May 1827 Foulmere) married Isaac GEEVES (but changed the spelling of his name to JEEVES on his marriage certificate 20 December 1853 East Melbourne -born 20 July 1822 Foulmere). Ann and Isaac had 8 children, some born in Tasmania and others born in Victoria.”

Interesting that Gamaliel ended up in Melbourne, Australia after his son George was christened in Melbourn, Cambridgeshire. Part of a plan or just coincidence?
