Red Cross

A Red Cross nursing team was formed in Steeple Morden in 1939 to help care for the many evacuees arriving in the village. The Commandant was Nurse Moss, who was the qualified village nurse in Steeple. The Red Cross volunteers helped staff the Infant Welfare Clinic, which also started in 1939 and continued into the 1970s, although the Red Cross involvement ended before that date. It is not known when this Red Cross team ceased operating.
